Research in Valladolid and Madrid

During the months of July and August, Cloe Cavero travelled to Spain to conduct archival research and fieldwork for her research project on child saints.

In addition to working on the Archivo General de Simancas (Valladolid), and the collections of the Archivo Histórico Nacional, the Biblioteca Nacional, and the Biblioteca del Palacio Real in Madrid, she visited the Church of San Pelayo in Olivares de Duero. This isolated church preserves a fascinating altarpiece dedicated to Saint Pelayo, a boy of thirteen who was murdered in Granada in 925 as a martyr to both faith and chastity.
